The CMA Is "Building Bridges" The Night Before The Election

.. and Suite 101 correspondent Chris Sanders wonders why:
"...CMA awards opening performance is a lackluster choice. When the curtain goes up on the awards show on Monday night, host Vince Gill, Sheryl Crow and Brooks and Dunn will perform first. The top ten hit "Building Bridges" is scheduled to kick off the CMA Awards from the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville. While the opening performance should be nice and safe, I was hoping for a little more of a thunderous entrance. Kenny Chesney kicked off last year's concert with "Living in Fast Forward," which at the time was barely out as a single, but the song had a good driving tempo to begin the show. The complaint about "Building Bridges" is that it wasn't the most popular hit of the year and there's nothing special about it what would qualify it as a show opener. They should have gotten Rodney Adkins to sing "If You're Going Through Hell" or have Carrie Underwood sing "Before He Cheats," that would have gotten some people out of their chairs. Hopefully the rest of the show will rise in interest after the opening act."
